In a major boost to local commerce, Norfolk’s small business community received a significant boost in 2023 through the Digital Main Street Program. A total of $167,100 in grants were distributed among 65 small businesses, marking a substantial investment in the digital transformation and growth of local enterprises. The initiative underscores the commitment to fostering a robust digital economy within the region.
The grants were allocated across three key programs. The ShopHERE program, a cornerstone of the initiative, awarded 43 grants, focusing on enhancing online presence and e-commerce capabilities for businesses. Meanwhile, the Canada Digital Adoption Program contributed four grants, targeting broader digital adoption strategies. Additionally, 18 businesses benefited from the Digital Transformation Grant Program, which aimed at comprehensive digital upgrades.
Norfolk’s local Digital Services Team played a pivotal role in this success story. Throughout the year, they offered one-on-one assistance to dozens of small businesses. Their services ranged from offering training sessions to providing advisory support, and importantly, assisting in the grant application process. This hands-on approach not only facilitated the effective use of the grants but also empowered business owners with the knowledge and tools necessary for digital proficiency.
The impact of these grants is already evident in the enhanced digital operations of the recipient businesses. From improved online storefronts to streamlined digital processes, these businesses are now better equipped to compete in the modern marketplace.
