Norfolk County Council will be reviewing recommendations from its Planning Department soon, which will allow farm wineries, breweries and distilleries as-of-right, as well as other on-farm diversified uses.
On-farm diversified uses will include farm experience activities, including farm stays, retail and other opportunities for farmers and small business. The proposed change could mean that a new on-farm diversified use could be added on a farm on up to 2% of the land, to a maximum of one hectare.
Council referred the issue to the Agricultural Advisory Board and the Tourism and Economic Development Advisory Board last fall to consider public input provided at Council. Both advisory boards expressed support for the changes.
