    Townsend Butchers expands

    October 23, 2018
    Townsend Butchers

Norfolk County’s Tourism and Economic Development Department celebrates the expansion at Townsend Butchers. Very soon, they will start occupying their new space. Townsend Butchers is a very valued business in our community.

Townsend Butchers of Norfolk County received planning permission last year to complete a 4,500-square-foot expansion of its meat-processing operation north of Simcoe.

Townsend Butchers is expanding its workforce of 18 even as it is investing in new machinery, reports the Simcoe Reformer. Another specialty of growing importance is the plant’s smoked meat division. This too requires significant investments in equipment and compliance with strict provincial regulations.

The addition will provide space for processing, production flow improvements, shipping on the main floor and employee amenity space on the second floor. The existing traffic flow and onsite parking are to remain, with the loading docks to be relocated and reconfigured to accommodate larger vehicles. The existing retail space will not be increased but will be shifted to the west on the main floor.

Townsend Butchers focus on niche areas of the meat-packing business are part of a trend toward boutique specialization in the local agricultural sector.
