Norfolk County has received an application from The Gathering Food Centre for the Architectural and Design Grant of the Community Improvement Plan (CIP). Approval of this application is pending, subject to Council budget approval. The Gathering Food Centre intends to submit an application for additional incentives in the Community Improvement Plan towards the extensive renovations that are planned for their property.
The Gathering Food Centre will receive a grant of up to $1,500 towards the preparation of drawings for improvements to their building located at 83 Sydenham Street in Simcoe. Improvements will include renovations to encompass a multi-use community centre with a food demonstration kitchen, program rooms, café, dining area, meeting rooms and retail marketplace.
Incentives are available for architectural and design, environmental site assessment, structural improvements, building facades, agricultural building and facilities, residential conversions and rehabilitation, landscaping, signage and property improvement. Property tax increment grants are also available for larger projects.
Non-residential projects are eligible for incentives. Depending on the program, programs apply to properties in urban, hamlet, lakeshore and agricultural areas.
Community Improvement Plans help municipalities target areas in transition or in need of repair, rehabilitation and redevelopment, and stimulate private sector investment through municipal incentive-based programs.
Information about CIP incentives is available at www.norfolkbusiness.ca, phone 519-426-9497 or email [email protected].
Earlier this year, the organization announced its plans to renovate the former liquor store.
