NORFOLK COUNTY, Ont. – June 14, 2017 – The deadline is approaching for Norfolk County students in Grades 6 to 12 to apply for the Student Start Up Program, also known as SSUP Norfolk.
Students with a summer business idea may receive up to $300 to start up their operations, if they apply by Friday, June 23, 2017, at 4:30 p.m.
This year, Norfolk County and its sponsors hope to approve 100 students for the program. So far, 35 applications have been submitted. The program is funded by sponsorships from businesses and organizations in Norfolk County. More sponsors are welcome. As of mid-June, the following sponsors have stepped up, which will allow 40 students to be funded:
- Five-Star SSUP Sponsors (sponsoring 5 students each): Norfolk County, Libro Credit Union, MHN Lawyers, Staples Simcoe, Titan Trailers, Van Amerongen & Son, Venture Norfolk.
- Three-Star SSUP Sponsors (3 students each): Rassaun Services, Inc., SCOR Economic Development Corp.
- One-Star SSUP Sponsors (1 student each): CarStar Collision, Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, Norfolk Rotaract Club, Picard Foods.
- SSUP Supporters include Long Point Eco-Adventures, Whistling Gardens, Simcoe Reformer and MyFM.
Last year, the program received 87 applications from students. Sponsorship funding allowing for 40 student businesses involving 52 students to be approved.
