A new bakery has opened in downtown Simcoe. Salinas’ Bakery and Take-out, opened in December 2019 at the former shoe store at Norfolk Street South and Water Street. Salinas Ferreira, wife Fabiana and their family are resurrecting the business they ran in Hamilton for 12 years. Their specialty is Portuguese baking and cuisine.
“It will have everything you would find in a normal bakery, plus what you would find in a Portuguese bakery,” Fabiana told the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.
Baked goods include Portuguese custard tarts, sweet breads, pretzels and the like. Takeout items will include Portuguese roast chicken, which is typically infused with garlic, oregano, paprika, chili spice, lemon zest and a touch of sweetness.
The bakery is the kind of business Norfolk County is looking for when it comes to downtown revitalization.
