Norfolk County’s Building Department recorded a construction boom in 2017, with more than $142 million in building projects in all sectors.
Total value of construction was 28% higher in 2017 than the year before, with industrial, commercial and agricultural projects showing the biggest gains.
More than $79 million in single-family residential construction started in 2017, up 15.8%, involving 307 homes.
Agriculture-related construction increased 68% to $18.7 million.
Industrial construction more than tripled to $18.6 million.
Commercial construction also tripled to $6.8 million.
Multiresidential construction was valued at $11.5 million, down 27%, and institutional dropped 15% to $4.3 million. Miscellaneous construction stayed flat at $1 million and septic permit values increased by 27% to $1.2 million.
