Packages of lettuce and other leafy greens grown by the Local Vegetable Company have witnessed healthy sales at farmers markets across Southwestern Ontario this summer.
The Local Vegetable Company’s new research and development facility on Luscombe Drive in Simcoe is operational, and production is underway. Recently, company co-founder Oliver McGinley spoke to Norfolk County’s Agricultural Advisory Board, where he explained the company’s plans for the eight-acre property in Judd Industrial Park. The company’s initial plans revolve around producing quality leafy greens, but may expand into other commodities in the future.
“We don’t want to produce anything that is less than high quality,” Mr. McGinley said, adding that the company’s location in Norfolk County puts them in close proximity to key markets. He said the municipal water supply is key, and advised that everyone in Norfolk County has been very helpful.
