Habitat for Humanity applies to build in Norfolk

    January 28, 2016

Habitat for Humanity Brant has applied for a Building Permit for their first build in Norfolk County.

The location is at 95 Patterson Street, Simcoe with construction slated to start this spring. Russ Janiec, Director of Construction with Habitat for Humanity Brant, dropped off the Building Permit Application at Norfolk County’s Development & Cultural Services office in Simcoe.

At the September 16, 2014 Council-in-Committee Meeting, Sandra Cocco, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity – Brant provided a Deputation to Council to outline their interest in establishing a new Habitat build in Simcoe.

Staff have worked closely with Habitat representatives in their quest to identify a suitable property in the serviced area of Simcoe. One such property that best fits their needs was a vacant County owned property located at 95 Patterson Street, Simcoe.

The property is located immediately west of the Lynn River on a cul-de-sac and adjacent to a small playground. The property is zoned Residential R2 which will accommodate the new home. Plans call for a modest 2 story design and will be in keeping with the scale of the neighbourhood.

This project has been made possible through the support of Norfolk County Council who has agreed to waive all development associated fees to make the proposal a reality.
