Norfolk County’s focus on collection of tax arrears is bearing fruit, lessening the burden upon property owners whose accounts are in good standing.
The results of the collection efforts have been substantial. By the end of 2014 the remaining balance of taxes for years 2011 and prior was $1.6 million. This represents an 89% reduction in the 3+ years arrears from 2011 to 2014. According to provincial law, tax sale action can only commence when the taxes are 3 years in arrears. Full report.
