The Norfolk Fruit Growers Association is a giant in the marketing of apples around the world, but operates quietly behind the scenes in Norfolk County.
Under the “Norfolk Brand”, “Golden Garden Brand” and “Orchard Crisp” label, the Norfolk Fruit Growers Association markets apples throughout Canada, U.S., U.K., Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America.
Apple varieties grown by member-growers include McIntosh, Red Delicious, Empire, Gala, Golden Delicious, Crispin, and Ida Red.
The Norfolk Fruit Growers is located on a 17-acre property with 3.5 million cubic feet of storage facilities, including cold, controlled-atmosphere, low-oxygen, common, and dry storage. The organization has invested in a new six-lake optical-sizing pack line, carton-sealing equipment, automated bagging units and weighers, automated carton accumulation and palletisation, and other new technologies. Five acres have been set aside for expansion.
Developed in Ontario in 1798, McIntosh is the best selling apple in the Northeastern United States and in Canada. It has white, tender, crisp flesh that’s spicy, highly aromatic, and full of juice. They are good for eating, sauce and juice. Ontario McIntosh Apples are recognized as the best apples in the world, and can be purchased from the Norfolk Fruit Growers Association.
