Norfolk County’s Agriculture Advisory Board recently met with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change about septic systems on the farm:
Environmental compliance approval is required when the sum of the daily flows of all septic systems on a parcel of land is more than 10,000 litres per day, including home, shop, barns, bunkhouses, etc. Over that limit, a farmer must hire an environmental consultant to prepare a hydrogeological study to provide background data. The study takes 6 months to complete, plus MOECC queue times for review and MOECC approval can take another 12 to 18 months.
Further information is available on the MOECC website. Read the summary of all restrictions in the AAB minutes.
